Smudge Sticks

Smudging comes from the indigenous American tradition known as the Sacred Smoke Bowl Blessing. The spirit of various sacred plants are called in to drive away negative energy and to restore balance to an individual, group, space, or all three. The smoke generated by the smudge flows up to heaven, taking our prayers to Spirit. When we smudge we are plugging in to an ancient line of spiritual cleansing.
Smudges are used to cleanse, purify, protect and remove negative energy. Light the end of the smudge stick and place in a shell, clay pot or on a concave rock – use something natural that will withstand heat. Gently blow out the flame and let the herbs smoulder. If used for house cleansing, walk with it from room to room and guide the small stream of smoke all around. Say a prayer or what it is you intend the smudge to do. When you are done, leave the smudge stick in the container and let it burn out or simply snip of the burning end of the smudge stick and leave that to burn in the container. The unused part of the smudge stick can be stored and used again. Smudge sticks are lovely natural incense and have many uses.
